Michael Card on Discipleship

As many of you know, our church will be having Michael Card, theologian/songwriter, as a guest on March 9. Well, my seminary classes got cancelled today, so I've been reading his book The Walk, which is about his discipleship relationship with Dr. Bill Lane. Its a short read and I recommend it. We all should be in the process of being discipled and discipling.

Here's a very insightful description of discipleship: "After all, that's one of the tasks of disciplers: to wake us up to what is really going on around us, to encourage us to take our eyes off ourselves and see that our world is not the only world. That outside the narrow confines of the self there exists a world that truly is golden. And they allow us to borrow their eyes until we can see it for ourselves" (29).

We will be looking at the topic of "Friendship" from the book of Proverbs on Sunday. This topic of discipleship is connected. I'm interested in your thoughts on "discipleship" and "friendship" and what role they are to play in our lives as Christians.

Guys and Gals,
Michael Card has a website with archives of his radio show ("In the Studio with Michael Card")-web address listed below. I encourage you to listen to one of these before hearing him in person. Mr. Card has a knack for combining his musical talent with Biblical images/symbolism. He reminds me of Pastor Nate- gifted musically, and loves the unadulterated Word of God:
